Suốt cuộc đời sống trọn vẹn nghĩa tình, tận tâm với nghề, tận tụy với gia đình, Dù Ông đã đi xa, nhưng giá trị, nhân cách và tình yêu thương Ông để lại sẽ mãi là những điều quý báu cho con cháu và các thế hệ học trò.

Dẫu biết sinh – lão – bệnh – tử là lẽ thường của kiếp người, nhưng gia đình chúng tôi vẫn không khỏi bàng hoàng và đau xót khi ba chúng con, ông Lê Thanh Hoàng Dân, đã khép lại hành trình trần thế.

Trong những ngày này, nỗi mất mát như phủ một lớp sương mỏng lên từng hơi thở, từng góc nhà, từng kỷ niệm. Ba ra đi, để lại khoảng trống không gì có thể lấp đầy, nhưng cũng để lại một di sản yêu thương, nhân hậu, và trí tuệ mà chúng con sẽ mang theo suốt đời.

Chúng con xin phép được đăng tải cáo phó dưới đây nhằm thông báo lịch trình tang lễ đến quý thân bằng quyến thuộc, bạn bè xa gần, những học trò của ba, những người đã thương mến ba và luôn đồng hành cùng gia đình chúng tôi.

Trong giờ phút thiêng liêng này, gia đình xin cúi đầu tri ân tất cả tấm lòng đã gửi đến. Mỗi lời chia buồn, mỗi vòng hoa, mỗi tin nhắn đều là một sự nâng đỡ dịu dàng giúp chúng tôi vững vàng hơn giữa nỗi đau mất mát.

Nguyện cầu hương linh ba, Giáo sư Lê Thanh Hoàng Dân được an nghỉ nơi cõi vĩnh hằng, tiêu diêu nơi miền an lạc.

Professor Le Thanh Hoang Dan, a distinguished Vietnamese educator, philosopher, translator, and author, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2026, in Florida at the age of 88 (90 lunar calendar) He departed at 6:57 AM.

“A life lived with deep devotion, dedicated to education, and completely bound by love for family. His values and love remain an eternal treasure for his descendants and generations of students.”

Born on December 13, 1937, in Saigon, Vietnam, Professor Dan dedicated his early life to the enrichment of South Vietnam’s academic, cultural, and public educational landscape. After graduating from the Saigon University Faculty of Pedagogy in 1959, he taught at Võ Trường Toản, Tây Ninh, and Sa Đéc high schools. He later advanced into higher education, serving as a revered lecturer and professor at the Saigon National University of Pedagogy, the University of Saigon, and the universities of Cần Thơ, Cao Đài, and Hòa Hảo. Beyond the classroom, he served as the head of the Textbook and Learning Material Center for the Ministry of National Education.

Professor Dan was also widely celebrated for his groundbreaking contributions to public education and broadcasting in Vietnam. He was the esteemed co-host of South Vietnam’s beloved and iconic educational television program Đố Vui Để Học (Learn with Fun Quiz Show), and served as the resonant presenter of Quê Hương Mến Yêu (Beloved Homeland), bringing knowledge, culture, and inspiration directly into the homes of countless families. Alongside his teaching career, he founded and managed the TRẺ (Youth) Publishing House, where he curated and introduced numerous invaluable book collections to the public. Through these efforts, he translated and published more than 30 monumental volumes to make global knowledge accessible to the youth of Vietnam.

Though his library of books printed before 1975 in Saigon was painfully left behind in Vietnam during the fall of April 1975, his profound intellectual legacy remains. Among his curated publications, the Education Series featured foundational titles such as “Educational Issues,” “Philosophy of Education,” “History of Education,” “Professional Ethics,” and “School Administration.” His Psychology and Pedagogy Series offered essential guides including “Child Psychology,” “Educational Psychology,” “Pedagogical Methods,” “Pedagogical Thought,” “Adolescent Psychology,” and “Theoretical Pedagogy.” Through the World Literature Series, he brought masterful translations of global masterpieces to Vietnamese readers, including André Malraux’s “Man’s Fate,” Jean-Paul Sartre’s “The Wall,” Albert Camus’s “The Stranger,” alongside works by other celebrated Nobel Laureates in Literature such as André Gide, Ernest Hemingway, and John Steinbeck. Finally, his Human Sciences Series provided sharp societal insights through volumes like “Great Political Masterpieces,” “History of the Cold War,” and “The Selling of the President.”

Family & Later Life

Following his migration to the United States, Professor Dan and his family rebuilt their lives from the ground up. Demonstrating the ultimate resilience of his generation, he mastered English, attended Pace University to earn his Master of Science (MS) in Computer Science and an MBA in Business Administration, and built a successful multi-decade career in the American banking sector.

The family’s early years in America were marked by profound tragedy when their eldest daughter, Le My Hanh, an honors student, was tragically murdered in Queens, New York. Despite this staggering grief, Professor Dan and his wife anchored their family with quiet strength, focused on providing a stable future for their remaining children.

Upon entering retirement, a beautiful new chapter unfolded for Professor Dan and his beloved wife, Sophie Mỹ Châu Lê. Blessed with a rare, enduring love built to last a century, they relocated from New York to the warmth of Florida. Together, hand in hand, they stepped into a golden era of discovery, embarking on spectacular adventures across the globe and traveling widely to immerse themselves in the world’s diverse cultures. Their Florida home became a peaceful sanctuary and a vibrant center of creativity. It was within these walls that their deep bond flourished on the dance floor; sharing a passion for ballroom dancing, they moved in perfect harmony, entering and sweeping through many wonderful dance competitions.

From the quiet comfort of his Florida study, surrounded by his travels and his life’s memories, Professor Dan experienced a grand literary rebirth. In April 2018, after a 43-year absence from the publishing world, he returned to his lifelong passion for writing and publishing. Collaborating closely with his devoted eldest surviving daughter, Michelle Le Nguyen, he established a new publication endeavor designed to foster a deeper, more profound understanding of the United States and the lived experiences of the Vietnamese diaspora.

This prolific final chapter resulted in an expansive collection of writings. His published volumes included “42 Years Living in the United States: What is Gained, What is Lost?,” “America, Where I Am Living (Volume 1): New York City,” and “(Volume 2): The State of California.” He also left behind a rich roadmap of upcoming works, including “America, Where I Am Living (Volume 3): The East Coast,” “(Volume 4): The State of Florida,” “(Volume 5): The Midwest,” and “(Volume 6): The Great National Parks of the United States.” Through these works, he beautifully wove his global travel experiences with his profound eastern and western philosophical views on identity, migration, and heritage. Throughout his long life, he lived fully with deep integrity, dedicated himself to his profession, and completely devoted himself to his family.
